How Technology Continues To Enable Small Businesses

It’s not news that technology has come a long way in helping businesses be more productive and in many cases thrive. However, we don’t always appreciate the reasons why. The small details in how people take advantage of technology in specific ways to enable them to succeed.

In the post, when I use the word technology, I am specifically going to talk about two things. Devices and software.

Devices have allowed a good number of business people to have mobile offices. Instead of a landline, we can now get in touch with businesses or business owners from wherever they are. We can call or send instant messages to find out about products or services we wish to acquire.

Laptops have allowed us to do a bulk of the work we would normally do behind an office desk… from anywhere with a power socket and hopefully free WiFi connection.

Again… nothing new.

But over the years, suppliers of these devices and software tools have continuously worked to improve them.

Our devices are not only faster and can hold up more data, but they have software applications that provide even more business benefits.

Cloud solutions have allowed business owners to have software systems that sync seamlessly across multiple devices. The systems themselves are even more integrated to the business process, making it seem as though the business has a digital replica online.

Customer Relationship Management solutions that track customer engagement also come equipped with finance tracking tools, project tracking tools, document publishing and management tools, asset tracking tools and the list goes on.

Access levels that manage who-is-able-to-see-what based on organizational structure or other privileges.

If you look at even smaller businesses, there are mobile apps that have replaced the traditional methods of doing bookkeeping. Not only allowing business owners to track what they make and how they spend… but apps that provide tax reports and other performance tracking tools.

Allowing small business owners to develop a greater business perspective.

We are continuing to see, not just the growing rate of adoption, but also the continuous evolution of the tools used by the businesses.
